What is specific to Mauritania right now
- Under Proclamation 10998 (in effect since January 1, 2026), the U.S. has suspended immigrant visas and B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas for nationals of Mauritania, with limited exceptions such as green-card holders, dual nationals traveling on another country's passport and visas issued before that date. Routine visa services at the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott ended on August 1, 2026, when the State Department moved visa processing in Africa to regional hubs. Mauritanian visa applicants now go to Dakar, Senegal.
